Hemant Ekbote
Professional Tabla Artist and Instructor
Hemant Ekbote is a professional tabla artist and educator. He has performed alongside top artists including Pt. Jasraj, Smt. Lakshmi Shankar, and Ustad Salamat Ali Khan. He is a visiting faculty member at San Diego State University and the founder of The Divine School of Music, where he teaches tabla to students from both Indian and American backgrounds.
Early Years
Hemant began playing the tabla at six, learning from his father, Shri Shyamrao Ekbote. His dedication to practice led him to study music at M. S. University of Baroda, where he earned his master’s degree and served as a faculty member. During this time, he was awarded a scholarship to study with the esteemed tabla master Pandit Sudhir Kumar Saxena of the Ajrada Gharana.
Notable Achievements
Hemant has performed on All India Radio (AIR) and accompanied renowned artists like Pandit Jasraj, Smt. Lakshmi Shankar, Ustad Salamat Ali Khan, Ustad Shujaat Husain Khan, Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar, Pandit Sanjeev Abhyankar, and Smt. Vandana Ghate. His work also includes collaborations on various music albums.
Teaching
Hermant is a visiting faculty at San Diego State University, where he teaches international music. He is also the founder of The Divine School of Music, where he has been teaching students of both Indian and American backgrounds for over twenty years.
